ATTIC ENSUITE
On the third floor of an existing Victorian home, this space was challenged with the availability of useable floor space because of low knee walls and sloped ceilings.
THE CONCEPT
By rearranging the layout of the space and gaining space from the master bedroom we were able to expand the vanity to include double sinks as well as functional drawers.
THE PLAN
By using some of the ample space available in the bedroom the layout of the space is divided into two zones. One for bathing – where ceiling heights are less critical and the other for showering and washing at the vanity. This way we were able to work with the ceiling heights, achieve a sense of symmetry and drama at the tub and fit in as much as possible to meet the customer’s wishes.
THE BEFORE
This bathroom acts as an ensuite off of the master bedroom and its’ previous layout had a very small pedestal sink and little to no storage.
THE DESIGN
Either side of the tub, we designed custom cabinetry to provide storage in the otherwise wasted space of the knee walls. In addition, this storage hides the mechanical components required for the now 7′-0″ long steam shower.
BRINGING IT ALL TOGETHER
This shower has so much detail, two benches, stunning tile and a niche for all of your shower needs.
THE FINISHED SPACE
Clean lined fixtures and the linear vanity, vanity light and shower are contrasted with the use of round black framed mirrors at both sinks. Rather than fight against the sloped ceilings, we embraced them, using them to create a symmetrical back drop for the beautiful curvilinear shaped tub and the original charming dormer and window.
TIME TO ENJOY!
Following our customer’s lead, this space draws inspiration from high-hotels and spas. To reinforce this, we used large-scale marble-look porcelain tiles with dramatic black and white veining. We opted to keep it consistent throughout the walls and floor to give a sense of opulence and scale.
